Have just discovered that the company I work for has blocked all the BBC's live music players on the web so I can no longer listen to BBC 6 music while I work. (Or Radio 4 news programmes which is kind of important as a journalist.)
Classic FM isn't blocked though, what are they trying to say?
And what is next banning iPod's at your desk?
Today I helped my friend Jen at her work place at Edgewood to package letters for their many donors and such, was fun.. over 1500 letters were to be sent out. It's a really cool place helping at risk kids and my my the building they work in is soooo great! very historic it was once a Victorian orphanage at one point a great one too! After which I had lunch with Monk( the asian body guard I shot) at that lunch I met a Stylist whose responsible for training models for runway and such.. whoot! he does it for a very good cause, he takes at risk girls and train them to become high fashion models, cool guy lots of link ups too and I may be shooting some of his models... whoot!! urgh got my tickets to a charity fashion show in which Monk will participate, his first runway show. Got to support my friends.. urgh bad thing its on the 2nd of August the day that work will be having the manditory friends and family.. I'll work but I have to leave early.. this show is a great place for me to do some networking for sure...
after that went back to helping at Edgewood and I got a cute bookmark for helping!
and then after that I did a photoshoot.. this was done with one light only as opposed to my usual two.. love the effect!!
As I was heading out for the gym, a letter in the mailbox informs me that I owe the Quebec government another $2,800 in taxes for 2007. Sigh. After what I've paid already (a LOT). So annoying.
I run to the gym, run for 45 minutes straight, feeling better: it's only money. OK, deal with it. I get home, hop in the shower, turn on my computer, make a smoothie, turn on my computer, change my clothes, turn on my computer, wait. Why won't my computer turn on?
Can't find hard drive it says. That doesn't sound good. Run scan: everything seems OK except that it's not reading any hard drive, as if it's never been there. Sigh again.
I run the thing down the hill to a computer shop: bottom line? I can drop $500 to have it fixed (a four year old computer that has other problems) or buy a new one. And I paid $40 for him to tell me that.
Bottom line is it's 11pm now and I am setting up my new computer. Thank GOD I have copies of just about everything in my email account. I did lose about a week's worth of work for one company that will take me two days to reproduce, and another few days of work for another company that will take slightly longer to reproduce. But it could have been much much worse. Most of my music was on my iPod so I could recover it. All my photos are online. So there are a few things here and there (and certain things I'm probably not remembering right now)...but I feel lucky that I didn't lose more.
And I'm not stressing about the fact that last night before I went to bed, I was $4,000 richer than I am today (taxes plus new computer).
Life's a drag. But at least I got a new computer.
Guess my hiking trip to Vermont is out...
I think it is absolutely disgusting that people are rushing to see the Dark Knight because of some morbid fascination with seeing Heath Ledger's last completed role before he died, rather than the film itself. You wouldn't catch me hot-footing it to the Clappy Picture House when it opens on Thurs. Ahem.
But all this talk of an Oscar, really. Regardless of how good Ledger is as the Joker, the cynic in me suggests that people wouldn't even be considering him as a contender if he were alive today. History suggests that the Oscar judging panel tend to overlook most films with a fantasy element, unless it is a kiddie-flick let alone something that based on a comic strip.
And if Ledger does get such an accolade I think it will be a bit of a shame. In Brokeback Mountain, he not only proved he could act with a stunning performance but did it with a bold and brave choice of character, something a lot of Hollywood actors could learn from, and for that he should have been honoured with a statuette.
On the other hand, I'm inclined to think, and basing this on not having actually seen Dark Knight yet, that if such a genre of film is considered for an Oscar it would be a great step forward for the Academy.
I really would like to have a more normal sleep pattern. I'm just throwin' that out there in case anyone is listening...
I do not know what the story is but Vancouver has some of the most over priced thrift shops I have ever seen. I can say this with confidence because in the past I was something of a garage sale and thrift shop queen. I have been to thrift shops all over the country (USA) and Vancouver is indeed the most expensive and least interesting of the lot. The greater Vancouver area has about 20 Salvation Army thrift stores. I live almost smack in the middle of two.
A few weeks ago I was walking around Kerrisdale. There's a Salvation Army thrift shop on 41st. and something red caught my eye as I approached. It turned out to be a red pottery crock - from where I stood it looked like it could have been the red pottery I collect. I had about 4 dollars in cash on me and I knew without asking that there was no way in the world that thing was marked below 20 dollars. This was the store that has a ticket price of 25 dollars on a used Crockpot and dollar store highball glasses marked at 1.65 each. All the Vancouver Salvation Army thrift stores are a little too proud of what they have on the shelves. I knew I would be returning to the area in about a week. If that crock was there the next time - I would be prepared to buy it.
Well, it wasn't there. I don't have that kind of luck. And I am not living in the space age so going to a money machine DID NOT even occur to me - until just now. Just this very minute it occurred to me that I could have gone to an ATM. I never use the ATM. I forget they even exist. (Shrugs) Modern Day Cave Man.
But I did find a new thrift store on 41st called Treasure Village and for 3 dollars I bought a hand made artisan glazed tea pot complete with initials scratched into the bottom of the pot. It looks like the bowl and lid were made on a wheel.
SCORE because not only do I collect red Universal pottery, but I also collect random handmade cups and tea pots.
Had a wonderful dinner from the best chef aside from my mom today.. mm and I finished it in one go.. We had a special sandwich which so far he has made in over 4 countries.. the thing is huuuge and contains some of the most exotic things.. I've never been able to finish it in one sitting.. but oh how the tables turned today I finished mine and he could not finish his haha!
Logged on to facebook to find that my store manager added me.. eeek

In honor of the upcoming Olympics, what could you win a gold medal in?
Submitted by TheFiercestCalm.
Oh, I am so the Olympic napper. Don't take me on, I'll whomp your bootie and then take another nap after I do.
I bought this Midnight Oil CD a long, long time ago, and it's never gotten old to me. I'm playing it as a part of the "Hetta Music" thing I've been doing for some time now because she likes this band and especially this album. Their "earthy" sound and consistent vocal support for the environment and the less fortunate make them attractive to me and remind me of Heather.
I hope you all are doing fairly. Sorry I've not been reading any of your blogs, but I'm saving significant time by avoiding the blogosphere for the time being. The business site is getting bigger every day!
