Actually, as far as soundtracks go, there are three movies (I think) you need to watch, that wouldn't be anywhere close to the same with anything different about how the soundtracks were done. So I guess I'm not going to give a straight answer to this question, but everyone who reads all this crap I write is probably used to that right now. Also, I'm not going to pick out individual scenes, because that would involve trying to find just the right one on YouTube, and it would probably get taken down in a week anyway. Seems rather pointless. Anyway, those three movies:
No Country For Old Men is an example of what can be done with no soundtrack whatsoever. The silence in the background helps build the tension far more effectively than any soundtrack ever could, and makes the whole thing that much more brutal to watch. It's also an excellent movie. Actually, all of these are excellent movies.
A Clockwork Orange is just iconic for its synthesized renditions of Beethoven, courtesy of Wendy Carlos and her Moog. The movie came out at a time when people were exploring synthesized instruments as replacements for entire orchestras. Obviously, they ended up something else entirely, for the most part, but the best they ever sounded in that context was in the hands of Wendy Carlos.
And last of all, Brazil, whose soundtrack constantly comes back to the central theme, a pop song written by Ary Barosso in 1939, originally titled "Aquarela do Brasil." The song provides a strangely menacing atmosphere to the film, which is about as dark as comedy gets. In fact, that song is awesome. So here's a rather well-known band, Arcade Fire, playing it, recorded straight from my turntable:
